Norbu's Handicrafts

Who is Norbu? Norbu was the first painter that was given an opportunity to work and lead a team of painters at The Direct Help Foundation. These painters are responsible for the wonderful art on the top of the incense boxes made at The Foundation.

Norbu has since left the Foundation for the monastic life but we are pleased to be able to offer his work here.

All of these items have been completely hand made without the benefit of modern tools, As such, they are true representations of art from the Himalayan mountains in Nepal. Because they are handmade there will be slight variations in paint, color, and size. Each are individual, true works of art.

The entire sale of these items is being donated back to The Direct Help Foundation to help with the costs of running the orphanages and to support the women's reading program. The entire sale! 100%. No middle man, no hidden fees.

Won't you please add one (or two!) of these pieces of art to your collection, and help support The Direct Help Foundation's programs?

Tibetan Herb Box
Tibetan Herb Box

This gorgeous work of art is a Tibetan Herb Box, but it can be used for anything! Colorful, functional, and handmade ... three things necessary for truly wonderful, collectible art.

The box measures 9" wide and 6" deep. It's a generous 7" high. The lid is secured in front with a beautiful golden clasp in the shape of the dorje. Two hinges in back keep the lid in place.

On the sides of the box are painted the Lotus flower, open and lush. The Lotus flower in it's completeness is a symbol of beauty, happiness and eternal renewal.

The front of the box has a painted vase, the symbol of abundance, wisdom, and immortality. Fire rages out of the mouth of the vase. In Tibetan symbolism fire is one of the oldest divine forces. It is a symbol of destruction, a condition of creation of new life.

On the top of this box is a beautiful painting of the White Tara. The White Tara is easily recognizable by her seven eyes on the palms of her hands and feet, and her face.

White Tara is known for compassion, long life, healing and serenity. White Tara is often referred to as the Mother of all the Buddhas; she represents the motherly aspect of compassion. Her seven eyes (three on her face, one on the palm of each hand, and one on the sole of each foot) symbolize the vigilance of her compassion. Seated in the meditation posture, her right hand is in the gesture of supreme generosity and her left holds the lotus of compassion with the mudra of the three jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha). White Tara brings the devotee long life and protects against all dangers.

Long incense burner
Long Tibetan Incense Burner

A true treasure. This incense burner measures 10.5" long across the bottom. It comes with a full sized roll of the incredible incense made by The Direct Help Foundation. Entirely handmade and hand-painted, this beautiful burner is a true treasure from Nepal.

This burner is functional, though we recommend it for it's beauty. (If using for an incense burner, two button holes to hold the incense are inside the box. We also recommend lining the inside of the box bottom and sides with aluminum foil and then filling it with ash so the wood burner will not catch fire.) As this burner is entirely made from wood, it is flammable and care must be taken not to set it on fire when using it to burn incense.

LIMITED EDITION: Only eleven of these boxes are available!!
