Medicine King Mandala Tibetan Incense’s Logo |
The logo comprises
of 4 main parts namely, Sea, Golden Myrobalan, Medicine King
Mandala and Circular Rings. It is described from inner to outer
as follows:
1. The Sea at the centre represents all the characteristics of Tibetan incense.
It can be described as containing all the Buddhist teachings and its essence.
The Buddhist teachings and its essence are like flowing great rivers that come
together which merge into the sea.
2. Golden Myrobalan, the ‘Great Medicine’, symbolizes the prefect
remedy. It is a Tibetan medicine or herb that consists of 6 taste spheres, 8
potencies and 17 qualities all in one plant which can cure all sicknesses, and
is also considered as an auspicious object. This means that our medicinal incense
has its special healing and functions. The fresh leaves on the plant mean that
we only use clean and fresh ingredients in our product, produced through traditional
methods.
3. Medicine King Mandala symbolizes that all medical theory originates from Medicine
Buddha, King of Lapis Lazuli Light. The mandala consists of a cross “+” shape
which means that medicinal incense formulation is from a medical doctor.
4. The 4 circular rings, yellow, blue, red and black, which originates from inner
to outer represents Earth, Water, Fire and Wind elements respectively, that forms
the 4 main elements (contained in the bodily energies) that play a role in the
cause of illnesses. All sentient being’s (with form) birth, aging, sickness
and death are related to the changes of the elements. Thus, the medicines use
in curing of illnesses is classified by the 4 elements differentiated by its
taste, potencies and qualities. The basic principle in the use of medicinal incense
is using the 4 outer main elements to reach a balance of the 3 inner bodily energies.
The logo’s overall circular shape represents a combination of Medicine
Buddha’s blessing and medicine’s effectiveness that cures our illnesses.
It also represents the unique Tibetan culture of medicinal incense that will
continue to spread to other parts of the world like a turning wheel.
Some Tibetan Incense Formulation History
Tibetan incense’s secret making methods has been passed down since 1000
over years ago. The incense formula was originated from Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche)
and was used as an offering to Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and sentient beings in the
6 realms of Samsara as well as in exorcising rituals. Since then, Lamas and lay
person who did research on Tibetan incense discovered the “15 Scent Wisdom
Incense” (over 1800 years ago) formulated by Nagarjuna, founder of the
Madhyamaka (Middle Path) school of Mahayana Buddhism; Lord Atisha’s “11
Scent Namge Incense” (about 1001 years ago); Jiawenmiluo’s “18
Scent Buddha Incense” (about 878 years ago); Gelug Sect’s grand puja
incense “Saffron Medicinal Incense” (about 596 years ago). Several
other Tibetan incense which has history of about a few hundred years includes
incense from Mindroling Monastery and Potala Palace. All these different incense
lineages represent the uniqueness and flavor of Tibetan incense tradition. |
