In the year 538 c.e. Buddhism was introduced into Japan. Along with it across the ocean came statues of Buddhas, ancient Sutras, as well as incense. From that moment on, incense has been an inseparable part of Japanese history. Its use spread throughout the country, it was accepted for use by the indigenous Shinto faith as well as throughout the field of medicine.

In this way, Baieido has dedicated itself to making incense over the last 300 years.

Burning incense offers various effects, it purifies the air and sets our mind at ease. It also has medicinal effects as well, such as strengthening our stomach and alleviating fever. Initially, people used incense as herbal medicine to treat many diseases. Many incense ingredients are considered Panaceas or cure-alls throughout most medical traditions around the world!

Beyond these attributes incense has long since been an important part of almost all spiritual practice. The Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, as well as many other faiths all use it regularly in their ceremonies and devotions. It is an indispensable aid in meditation practice, it calms the mind and centers the energy.

Such benefits make incense an integral part of our lives. Baieido wants to offer you the finest product possible to help make your life a healthy and happy one.

What does 'Baieido' mean? "Baieido" is derived from the three characters Bai, Ei and Do. Sho means “Plum Tree”; Ei is the ancient sound meaning "Prosperity"; and Do is a store or company
